As a Senior Development Product Owner, I support anti-money laundering (AML) efforts presently focused on compliance with KYC (Know Your Customer) standards. These efforts seek to monitor and assess customer risk and compliance with federal AML laws.
I have served as a DPO over multiple teams, mentored new employees, and contributed to the design and deployment of multiple projects that significantly advanced USAA's goals.
The Texas Computer Cooperative (TCC) is a statewide cooperative made up of 19 regional Education Service Centers formed to offer comprehensive, high-quality, information systems services to Texas public and charter schools. Approximately 75% of the schools in Texas use TCC products.
As a Software Development Manager, I managed a team responsible for our 3 largest public-facing products, plus oversaw development on multiple new projects.
txGradebook - Serving thousands of teachers around the state.
txConnect - Serving hundreds of thousands of parents statewide.
Career Portal - An applicant tracking system I created during my time as a developer.
Parent Portal - A responsive redesign of txConnect merging the current desktop and mobile sites as well as introducing an enhanced UI and UX.
As a Product Owner, I served as a leader in the organization's move towards Agile. I would evaluate client requests for new features and services; assessing risks and prioritizing projects. I would translate client needs into technical specifications and resource requirements and work closely with development teams.
Groom project backlog.
Ensure adherence to coding standards, deadlines, and budgetary constraints.
Supervise, troubleshoot, and refine project design, implementation and deployment.
Recommend new I.T. initiatives and process improvement emphasizing cost savings and efficiency.
Coach other managers in the efficacy of Agile.
Notable among my contributions to the TCC has been the development of two new successful products (Parent Portal Mobile and Career Portal). These projects required:
Working closely with clients to gather requirements, understand priorities, and assess risks.
Designing and presenting prototypes from which to collect feedback and stakeholder buy-in.
Developing, testing and deploying applications.
Performing live walkthroughs (both in person, and digitally) to clients statewide.
Producing promotional and training videos.
Providing customer service, training, ongoing maintenance and client support.
SCM was a small consumer research firm in need of someone to oversee an ambitious I.T. infrastructure with limited resources.
Promoted to I.T. Director in 2005. Managed the design, development, and maintenance of all I.T. personnel and assets including multiple intranet applications and an enterprise-class reporting system.
Spearheaded the implementation of multiple I.T. initiatives that improved products & services, streamlined processes, reduced cost, and contributed to overall competitive advantage while simultaneously fostering record low employee turnover. Just some of these initiatives include:
Migration to a Web-Based Scheduling System - Resulting in higher quality data collection and massive savings for the company.
Proprietary I.T. Request & Prioritization Intake System - Provided executive leadership with a better tool for visualizing resource allocation and prioritization.
Mobile Reporting through Responsive Design - One of the earliest, and probably best, mobile reporting platforms of the time.
B2B Data Exchange via Web Services API - Responding to the needs of national clients by allowing for the secure exchange of custom data needs. This development ushered in more advanced API development leading to IVR integration with dynamic surveys.
Corporate Migration from MS Office to Google Docs - Providing a better work experience for at-home schedulers, reducing maintenance, and providing greater reliability and massive savings to the company.
Lead the design, coding, and maintenance of multiple web applications responsible for data collection, reporting, and management of Mystery Shopping programs. This position required heavy database administration and the frequent creation of advanced, multi-table SQL queries for extracting heavy relational data.
A short list of systems I developed would include:
The company's first online reporting solution (NetReports), the first version of which served the US Postal Service, and Albertson's Grocery chain.
The company’s first online data collection solution (Web Data Entry) as well as all subsequent upgrades. The system would regularly collect, validate and report on over a quarter million surveys monthly.
An intranet application for developing and managing online surveys with advanced validation, decision-tree branching logic, file upload, and automated integrity checks (Quest Dev).
A public facing application (Shopper's Corner) for recruiting, training, testing and scheduling “Mystery Shoppers” for customer service evaluation work.
Secure back-end FTP routines to automate routine B2B data file transmission.
Content management system for corporate website.
While attending Texas Tech University in Lubbock TX, I established a client base of small companies that regularly utilized me as their I.T. resource. During this time I built my first ASP application with an MS Access backend. It was an online product catalog for a supplier of pipe and irrigation equipment (Consolidated Pipe & Tube, Lubbock TX).
Other regular services provided to clients would include:
Build, repair and troubleshoot PCs.
Set up and manage Active Directory and Exchange Server for small businesses.
Set up small business networks.
Develop HTML websites.
Develop MS Access databases.
